　　一、season的用法

　　1. 基本义为“季节”，是可数名词。如：

　　There are four seasons in a year. 1年有4个季节。

　　Spring and autumn are my favorite seasons. 春季和秋季是我最喜欢的季节。

　　有时用于转义，表示“季节”“时节”“时期”“旺期”等。如：

　　It is just the season for shooting now. 现在正是狩猎的好时节。

　　This is the season for sleeveless dresses. 这是穿无袖连衣裙的时候了。

　　2. 比较 in season与 out of season：前者意为“当令”“及时”“正是时候”“在旺季”等，后者意为“不当令”“不上市”“在淡季”“不是时候”等。如：

　　Oranges are in (out of) season. 桔子正当令(已不当令)。

　　Fruit is cheapest in season. 水果在上市季节最便宜。

　　Hotels cost more in season. 在旺季旅馆收费较高。

　　二、spring, summer, autumn, winter的用法

　　注意英语中表示季节的名词(spring, summer, autumn, winter)有关用法：

　　(1) 关于与冠词连用的问题

　　①一般来说，表示季节的名词前不用冠词。如：

　　Spring will soon come round again. 春天又快到了。

　　The days are closing in now that autumn is here. 秋天来到了，白天渐渐短了。

　　②与介词in 连用时，用不用the均可。如：

　　In (the) summer we go on holiday. 夏天我们常去度假。

　　In (the) spring leaves begin to grow on the trees. 树木在春天开始长出叶子。

　　③特指某一年的某一季节时，通常要与定冠词连用。如：

　　He came to China in the autumn of 1949. 他1949年秋来中国。

　　但是，若表示季节的名词受描绘性定语的修饰，则通常要连用不定冠词。如：

　　It was a very cold winter. 那是一个非常寒冷的冬天。

　　They say we’re going to have a hot summer. 据说今年夏天很热。

　　④与介词during, through, all through, throughout, over等连用时，一般要用定冠词。如：

　　They worked on the building all through the winter. 他们一冬都在建这座楼。

　　Many plants lie dormant throughout the winter. 许多植物冬天呈休眠状态。

　　He lived with his grandfather during the autumn. 秋天他跟他爷爷住在一起。

　　We’re planning to keep the cottage on over the summer. 我们打算夏天继续租那座别墅。

　　⑤与all连用时，用不用 the 均可，不过在否定句中一般不用the。如：

　　She’ll be coaching all summer. 她整个夏天将要作辅导工作。

　　I haven’t seen her all autumn. 我整个秋天都没看到他。

　　但是，与some of, most of连用时，一般要加the。如：

　　It rained for most of the summer. 夏天大部分时间都下雨。

　　⑥当不强调时间而强调季节的内涵时，通常要用the。如：

　　We have enough coal to see the winter out. 我们有足够的煤过冬。

　　The plants have survived the winter. 这些植物经过冬天没有冻死。

　　比较下面的句子：

　　Winter is coming. 冬天要来了。(单纯指冬天的时间)

　　The winter is coming. 冬天要来了。(暗示寒冷)

　　In spring he swam in the rivers. 春天他到河里游泳。(单纯指春天的时间)

　　In the spring he swam in the rivers. 春天他到河里游泳。(暗示春回大地，冰融雪化，天气转暖等内涵)

　　(2) 是否使用复数形式：表示季节的名词通常是不可数的，一般不用复数形式。但是，若泛指多年的春(夏、秋、冬)季，可用复数形式。如：

　　Cold winters here are the exception rather than the rule. 这里冬天很少有冷的时候。

　　The south has cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers. 南方冬季凉爽潮湿，夏季温暖干燥。

　　表示季节的名词有时还可以用数词、many、one of 等修饰。如：

　　The house has weathered many bitter winters. 这幢房子已经挨过许多寒冬。

　　It’s been one of the coldest autumns for years. 这是多年来最冷的秋天。

　　(3) 用于名词前作定语的问题：季节名词可以直接放在名词前定语。如：

　　Roses will flag in the summer heat. 夏天炎热玫瑰就要枯萎。

　　You are invited to view our autumn collection. 秋装展销, 敬请光临。

　　Our new stock of winter clothes will arrive soon. 我们的新冬装很快就到货。

　　summer和winter有时还可以用其所有格作定语，但spring, autumn不能这样用。如：

　　It was a lovely summer’s day. 那是夏日一个晴朗的日子。

　　He left home on a dark winter’s night. 他于冬天一个漆黑的夜晚离开了家。
